Dear Friends,

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the closing of Piala Restaurant. Our lease will be up at the end of August, and given the current economic climate, we cannot justify renewing it. While this decision is difficult, we are grateful that we still have five more months to celebrate this unique and wonderful place—one that we have all built together.

From the very beginning, Piala has been more than just a restaurant. Lowell, our amazing staff, and I have worked hard to bring you delicious food, exceptional wine, and a welcoming atmosphere. But the true soul of Piala—the energy, the camaraderie, the unforgettable experiences—has always come from you, our community. For that, we are eternally grateful.

Piala has been a rare and special phenomenon. It has been an opportunity to share an ancient yet largely unknown cuisine with so many people experiencing it for the first time. The food and wine served here have been more than just meals; they have been catalysts for conversations about history, folklore, culture, politics, music, art, and the vibrant people of Georgia. For some, it was simply an introduction to a country they had never thought about before. For others, it was an inspiration to embark on their own journey to Georgia, eager to experience its rich traditions firsthand.

In Georgia, the table is the heart of family, community, and country. It is where life is celebrated, where traditions are passed down, where differences are set aside, and where passions come alive. Every gathering, feast, and Supra at Piala has been a singular moment in time—brilliant, intoxicating, and deeply meaningful. Our greatest hope is that these experiences have brought us all closer together in the true spirit of the Georgian table.

While this news may feel bittersweet, our hearts are filled more with pride than sadness. These next five months are not about mourning but about celebrating—about embracing the joy, the debauchery, and the deep gratitude we feel for the incredible journey we’ve shared with you all. We plan to make the most of this time in a way that would make our Georgian friends proud.

Stay tuned for our regular newsletters with updates on upcoming events, specials, and the continued parade of new flavors flowing from our kitchen. This is our way of showing our deepest appreciation for your unwavering support and friendship.

With Love, Jeff, Lowell & the Piala Crew

Piala Restaurant and Wine Bar is inspired by our travels to the country of Georgia, the birthplace of winemaking over 8,000 years ago. Today, they make wine with the same methods as they did long ago, by filling up Qvevri (traditional clay pots) with grapes, and grapes only - and burying the Qvevri in the ground where the fermentation process takes place. Our admiration of the ancestral methods is our core inspiration for the food, wine and customer experience at Piala.

Our goal, first and foremost, is to share the kindness and comfort we felt in this magical land: an expansive warmth and generosity that’s deeply felt when you enter a home. We want to share this old-world hospitality with each guest who enters our doors.

The food we serve will incorporate Georgian flavors and techniques with locally grown meats and produce. We are confident this approach will yield a culinary experience to satisfy the soul.

Our culinary delights will be paired with wine made to express the wild side of life. We don't like fussy technical wines. We love expressive magical wines made with love. We hope you do too!

Please join us for a cheers!
